“Life is a long lasting book. School is barely a chapter”

George Nikou

I was born in Canada on March 28, 1989. My parents are both Greek, however my dad was born in Greece while my mom was born in Canada. I’m the youngest in the family of three kids. My brother Angelo is 30 and my sister Kathy is 36. My brother Angelo and I are actually twins by one month. Hey that still counts right? I honestly don't recall ever being a whole family, we pretty much only had fragments of happiness and those moments were quite sparse.

When I was eight years old my parents were going through a tough divorce which had left the family fractured. My mother had eventually claimed full custody on all three of us. I used to see my dad maybe once per week for no more than two to three hours at a time. Reminiscing about my childhood, I can honestly say I had it quite rough. By the age of seventeen I remember having to move a total of six times to new apartments. Five times were proved to be court manditory. My mother definitely had it more rough than all of us, seeing as how much trouble my brother and I would get ourselves into inside and outside of school. Having to deal with with the stress of work, everyday obstacles and juggling three troubled kids, it's a wonder how she ever survived. But she did. And regardless of how successful she was as a parent, I know for myself, I am forever grateful to her. She is literally my biggest fan that I don't deserve.

Here’s an interesting story and on a lighter note. About ten years ago I used to play a game called World of Warcraft on the computer. It’s this MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-playing game) that consisted of nearly 16 million players at the time, spanning from all around the world with the majority of players being from North America. Anyway, while playing this addicting game I found a person I connected with, on a deeper level than usual. We talked almost exclusively every time we’d join the server for countless hours on end. Most of the time we didn’t even play the game but rather share stories of our past. It would seem that this new friend I had met on this online game that I had intended to just play and have fun, just so happened to be my soulmate. Within one year we decided to step outside the virtual realm and join one another in the real world. Today I have grown and been with this woman for nine years and married to her for nearly two. What can I say, life works in mysterious ways.
